  • The Rotary Club of Kissimmee West will host its first Rise & Run 5K @ NeoCity on October 18 at 8:00 a.m. at 194 NeoCity Way to benefit Help Now of Osceola and Rotary’s End Polio Now initiative—runners will also enjoy a Kids Run at 9:00 a.m. and awards for teams and finishers.  Positively Osceola

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Data from the NHTSA shows Florida recorded the most motorcyclist deaths in the US from 2019 to 2023—668 fatalities were reported in 2023, more than any other state. Authorities say speeding, low helmet use, and distracted driving have driven a 26% rise in rider deaths since 2019.  Positively Osceola

  • Osceola County will see traffic patterns shift on Monday when 79,000 students return to school. AAA advises drivers to slow down, stay alert for pedestrians, and follow the ABC’s of School Zone Safety for Drivers.  Around Osceola
  • Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington’s 4th Annual Back-to-School Tour will deliver more than 900 backpacks and 117 digital tablets (13 per school) to nine District 3 schools on Monday so that teachers and principals can decide how best to support students.  Around Osceola

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to impose stricter noise limits downtown—bars and restaurants must keep music below 85 decibels until 10 p.m., 70 until midnight, and 65 until 7 a.m. Establishments that use outdoor speakers must get a special permit for alcohol sales after midnight—this permit will go into effect Oct. 1.  Around Osceola
  • The TSA launched its Families on the Fly initiative at Orlando International Airport to help parents travel with children 12 and under using a special security lane—this program is part of a broader campaign to ease airport screenings and will soon expand to select airports.  Positively Osceola
  • On Wednesday, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office held its first official Awards and Longevity Ceremony under Sheriff Christopher A. Blackmon at its Kissimmee headquarters, honoring deputies, civilians, and community members for acts including a life-saving rescue and proactive investigation. The ceremony also recognized community partners like Chick-fil-A for their support — emphasizing the department’s dedication — and marked a moment of pride in service.  Positively Osceola

  • Pediatrician Dr. Candace Jones reports that immunization rates for kindergarten have declined slightly compared to last year as families prepare for the new school year. Flagler Schools spokesperson John Fanelli explained that some families opt out for personal or religious reasons and sometimes miss the booster shot—raising concerns for public health.  WESH
