Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 23rd of November.
Good morning, Kissimmee.
🏘️ Community
Heart of Florida United Way distributed 6,000 Thanksgiving meal kits to families in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties—feeding over 24,000 people amid rising food costs and federal shutdown challenges.
Around 1,000 volunteers packed and handed out the kits at Valencia College last Saturday morning.
Kissimmee Utility Authority announced 12 winners of its 32nd annual Student Calendar Art Contest that drew 1,748 entries from 18 Osceola County schools.
Grand prize winner Maria Pirela from Holy Redeemer Catholic School will have her art on the 2026 Energy Conservation Calendar cover and receive a $150 cash prize, while selected schools will get art supplies (Holy Redeemer $750 and Lakeview $500).
📰 Economy
Saturday's Florida Blue Florida Classic in Orlando drew strong local support as organizers expected more than 100,000 visitors and a boost of about $30 million to the local economy — local vendors prepared special offerings ahead of the big weekend.
Organizers said proceeds from the game support education for both schools — continuing the long-standing rivalry between FAMU and Bethune-Cookman.
🏛️ Government
On Friday, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin toured NeoCity, a 500-acre technology campus that is helping make Osceola County a hub for semiconductor innovation and advanced manufacturing.
NeoCity will soon break ground on a new 30,000-square-foot lab facility to boost high-tech job creation in the region—underscoring the county’s growing national role in America's tech future.
🏈 Sports
South Lake ended Osceola’s season 19—13 on Friday night after a late 14-yard touchdown pass gave them a 19–13 lead with 4:26 left, while Osceola missed key red-zone opportunities despite tying the game in the second half.
The win improved South Lake’s record and capped off an intense game where both defenses made crucial plays.
