Second Harvest Food Bank in Central Florida is preparing to feed more families if SNAP benefits end Saturday—though they said charities cannot match the food provided by SNAP for the 500,000 people who rely on it.
They work with over 800 local partners and recently helped 300 families receive fresh food.
District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington hosted his second annual Holiday Food Distribution at St. Rose of Lima Church in Kissimmee last Saturday—600 local families received free meal packages with holiday staples and more than 450 cars were lined up by 10 a.m. as volunteers from Second Harvest Food Bank and local groups helped load vehicles.
Federal funds for SNAP food stamp benefits will stop on Saturday, and local food programs in Central Florida are preparing for a surge in demand.
