Good morning, Kissimmee.

Valencia College reached its 1,000th graduate from the Osceola Prosper program—announced by President Dr. Kathleen Plinske during a commission meeting.

The program, which started in 2022 using leftover federal COVID recovery funds, now supports over 5,000 students and will likely extend to the class of 2026—boosting local education.

On Tuesday, Governor DeSantis announced that Attorney General Uthmeier filed a lawsuit against McGraw Hill and Savvas Learning for overcharging school districts for textbooks—including over $279,000 to Osceola—while the state seeks reimbursement and stronger pricing rules as it builds a new curriculum with a $3 million investment.

The Kissimmee City Commission approved a redevelopment plan that will replace the outdated Civic Center with a 300 room hotel and a 45,000 square foot convention center, with construction to begin in 2026 and the hotel complete in 2029.

The $183.8 million project will create temporary and permanent jobs — benefiting local contractors and generating city revenue through lease payments and a 5% share of hotel earnings.

Osceola County is asking residents to join an online survey to help shape its emergency preparedness plan for hurricanes and floods—available until September 30.

Local officials will use the feedback to improve the plan for future natural disasters.
