  • DT Minich, the president and CEO of Experience Kissimmee, was named to the VISIT FLORIDA Board of Directors and will serve until June 2026 — he is the first from Experience Kissimmee to join the board to shape state tourism. Valencia College received a $100,000 grant from Walt Disney World to support its VCentials initiative addressing student food insecurity, and the Postal Service marked its 250th anniversary with special events and contests.  Around Osceola

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 27-year-old Kissimmee resident died when she was struck by a car on US-192 near Westside Boulevard shortly before 5 p.m. on Wednesday — the driver, a 45-year-old from Clermont, swerved to avoid a collision and was not injured.  WFTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Joao Marcelo Mendes Minillo was indicted on a felony arson charge for setting fire to a CVS in Osceola County on April 17, which sent one person to the hospital and injured two others — surveillance footage and physical evidence linked him to the incident.  WESH

  • Parents in Kissimmee can attend several free Back to School events in Central Florida where free school supplies, food + games will be offered; one event begins Aug. 2 at Bridgeprep Academy in St. Cloud and other community centers and churches will also provide support for students.  Around Osceola

  • Effective today in Osceola County, families can shop tax-free for school supplies, clothing, and eligible items with limits like $100 for clothes and $50 for supplies, saving 7.5% on qualifying purchases while back-to-school sales boost savings—lawmakers also set a new tax holiday for hunting, fishing and camping items from Sept. 8 to Dec. 31 and made several safety items permanently tax-free.  Around Osceola
