  • On Thursday, 1,000 students from seven Florida nonprofit organizations participated in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at Typhoon Lagoon where 50 Disney lifeguards taught water safety and 40 Disney VoluntEARS cheered them on + Mickey Mouse and Stitch made surprise appearances to add extra fun.  Positively Osceola

  • While Marcos Lopez was released from jail on a $1 million bond after facing racketeering charges tied to an alleged $21 million gambling ring, his estranged wife Robin Lynn Severance Lopez remained behind bars on a $400,000 bond—legal experts say evidence discovered so far is expected to reveal more details as trial preparations continue.  Spectrum News 13

  • Osceola County School District announced strong gains on the 2025 state exams in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies with improvements in 20 of 21 categories compared to 2024. Superintendent Dr. Shanoff said the results— the best in district history— show that focused instruction and targeted support are boosting student achievement as administrators plan enhancements for next year.  Positively Osceola
  • Osceola County students earned many college honors this spring as they received degrees and awards from schools around the country.   • Osceola County opened the new 1.5-mile Kissimmee—St. Cloud Connector Trail on Thursday as part of the 200-mile Master Trail Network Plan. Commissioner Cheryl Grieb said the federally funded trail runs from Partin Triangle Park on Neptune Road along the south side of the C-31 Canal and connects to the Fortune Lakeshore Trail at Brown Chapel Road — a project that will enhance local recreation and travel.  Positively Osceola

  • After three hurricanes hit the state last year, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed SB 180 on Thursday, June 26—which now requires local governments to set debris-management sites, plan post-storm rebuilding and limit permit fee hikes—and mandates that hoisting equipment be secured 24 hours before an anticipated hurricane to prevent a repeat of a crane collapse during Hurricane Milton.  Orlando Weekly
