  • Suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez pleaded not guilty on Friday to federal charges of racketeering and conspiracy linked to an illegal gambling operation and was granted a bond of $1 million — $500,000 for each charge.  FOX 35 Orlando

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Gatorland launched Gatorland Global Conservation—a nonprofit aimed at protecting Florida alligators and endangered crocodilians worldwide—and partnered with state trappers and research facilities to support wildlife conservation efforts.   • City commissioners in Kissimmee voted 4—1 on Tuesday to pass a new fire assessment that will raise property taxes to fund more firefighters and change their schedule to a 24-on—72-off pattern; the measure will generate $6.1 million while residents raised concerns over the extra financial burden, but officials insisted the change is needed for public safety.  Around Osceola
