  • Veterans, civic groups and residents honored fallen soldiers with the 115th Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning at Mt. Peace Cemetery in St. Cloud. Officials including U.S. Rep. Darren Soto and Mayor Chis Robertson led flag honors—paying tribute to Marine Lance Corporal Jason Burnett, a local hero whose uniform is on display at the Military History Museum.  Around Osceola

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Earlier this year, a woman was seriously injured when an 8 foot alligator bit her paddle and elbow as she was kayaking at Lake Kissimmee State Park and a man fended off the gator by ripping off his life vest after it bit him, while a separate incident on May 6th saw a 61 year old woman die when her canoe capsized near Tiger Creek and the alligator was later killed.  FOX 35 Orlando

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday, officers shot a man with a rifle on the 4300 block of West Vine Street in Kissimmee and he was taken to a hospital—officials said there is no threat to the public and that the scene is secure.  FOX 35 Orlando

  • Local veterans can use the MHA for Veterans app to take mental health tests at home and call the VA Clinical Contact Center at 1-877-741-3400—available 24 hours a day, seven days a week—for real-time feedback. Veterans with a Purple Heart or higher combat decoration qualify for free state college tuition while non-profit NextOp helps them transition to civilian careers.  Around Osceola
