Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee announced that Caroline Schumacher will become its new President and CEO effective June 9—she replaces Pamela Landwirth, whose role was temporarily filled by Jordan Lomas since her January transition.

Osceola County School for the Arts Jazz Band A finished third at the 30th Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition held Sunday afternoon at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.

The band led by Jason Anderson secured its second straight top three finish — and students from the group appeared on NBC TODAY show.

Central Florida received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours — Lake Wales got over six inches and Kissimmee gathered more than three inches, which may have caused minor flooding on Monday.

Today, Kissimmee officials asked hotel developers to rework and resubmit downtown proposals within 30 days after reviewing plans for the Civic Center and Toho Square—city leaders want projects with 120 to 300 rooms, more local jobs, and added retail spaces to meet neighborhood needs. The commission set aside $10 million to renovate the Civic Center while also planning a new hotel near the airport.

AdventHealth will offer free sports physicals for Osceola County students in middle or high school this Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Osceola Heritage Park—student-athletes, ROTC, band members and firefighting academy participants are eligible—and organizers will share registration details soon.

On Saturday afternoon, Poinciana’s Levi Lee won the 1600-meter race at the FHSAA Class 4A State Championship at Hodges Field in Jacksonville with a time of 4:19.43 + he beat Vero Beach’s Parker Banzhaff by three-tenths of a second to end his high school running career.

Other Osceola athletes earned All-State honors, with Aailyah Strachen in the girls’ long jump and Mason Shafer in the pole vault adding to the county’s strong show.
