Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 1st of May.
Good morning, Kissimmee.
🏘️ Community
The Rotary Club of Kissimmee West just completed its Virtual Art Contest — which received votes via the Osceola Council on Aging website — and announced winners from more than 500 art pieces.
The contest, done in partnership with the Osceola County School District, awarded cash prizes to students and their art teachers.
🎭 Culture
The 155th Silver Spurs Rodeo will be held at Silver Spurs Arena on May 30-31 and will feature events such as bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling and team roping.
Organizers will crown a new female ambassador on May 29—an occasion that also offers veterans free food with a ticket purchase to support local nonprofits.
🎓 Education
Last week, a Voyager K-8 student from St. Cloud won first place at the National Civics Bee held at Gateway High School, and he along with two other finalists will now compete in the state finals at Florida State University on May 31.
The event was hosted by the Osceola Chamber in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation—boosting civic learning for middle schoolers in Central Florida.
